FAQ

What is a SIR in Pokémon cards?

SIR stands for Special Illustration Rare, a rarity introduced with the Scarlet & Violet series in 2023. A SIR is a full-art card where the illustration covers the whole card and usually tells a small scene, numbered above the set's printed size (a secret rare). Its rarity symbol is two gold stars. It is rarer than an Illustration Rare (one gold star) and usually the most valuable rarity in a modern set.

What is the most expensive SIR?

Right now it is Umbreon ex from Prismatic Evolutions (161/131) at $1,301 Near Mint on TCGplayer, followed by Mew ex from Paldean Fates ($870.16) and Mega Gengar ex from Ascended Heroes ($836.26), as of October 9, 2026.

How much is a SIR worth on average?

The median SIR is worth $33.97 Near Mint. 39 of the 232 SIRs are worth $100 or more and 164 are worth at least $20 (October 9, 2026). The Pokémon on the card matters most: Umbreon, Pikachu, Charizard, Gengar and Mew lead the list.

Which set has the most valuable SIRs?

Prismatic Evolutions: its 32 SIRs together cost $4,376 Near Mint, led by Umbreon ex at $1,301. The table on this page ranks every set the same way.

What is the difference between SIR, IR and Hyper Rare?

An Illustration Rare (IR) is a full-art version of a regular Pokémon with one gold star; a Special Illustration Rare (SIR) is a full-art ex, trainer or other headline card with two gold stars; a Hyper Rare is the gold-foil card with three gold stars. Value usually runs SIR first, then Hyper Rare, then IR, but the Pokémon on the card changes that order.
